You can pay rent in full, pay by credit card, or, if eligible, split your rent payment over time.

Who is Spread for? +

Spread is built for renters who want more control over their monthly cash flow.It is designed for people who pay rent on time but want more flexibility, whether that means using a credit card, earning rewards, managing timing between paycheques, or splitting rent into smaller payments when eligible.

Is Spread available in my city? +

Spread is launching in select Canadian markets.Availability may depend on your location, rent amount, payment method, and eligibility. Join the waitlist and we will let you know when Spread is available in your city.

Does my landlord need to sign up or change anything? +

No. Spread is designed to work without requiring your landlord to change how they receive rent.You provide your rent and landlord payment details, and Spread helps make sure your landlord gets paid on time. Your landlord does not need to create an account to get started.

Is Spread a bank or a lender? +

Spread is not a bank.Spread is a rent payment platform. Depending on the payment option you choose, Spread may provide access to payment flexibility or credit through Spread or its financing partners. All credit options are subject to approval, eligibility, and applicable terms.

What does Spread cost? +

Spread charges a monthly subscription fee to access the platform.Additional fees may apply depending on how you choose to pay your rent. If you pay by credit card, a transaction fee applies. If you split your rent payment over time, a transaction fee and a flexibility fee may apply. You will always see the full cost before confirming your rent payment.

Is there a monthly subscription? +

Yes. Spread is a subscription-based platform.Your subscription gives you access to Spread's rent payment tools, including the ability to pay rent through the platform and access available payment options. Subscription pricing will be shown clearly before you sign up.

What fees apply when I pay by credit card? +

When you pay rent by credit card through Spread, a transaction fee applies.This fee helps cover payment processing, card network, fraud prevention, banking, and transaction infrastructure costs. You will see the full fee before confirming your payment.

What fees apply when I split my rent payment? +

If you use split payments, fees may include a transaction fee and a flexibility fee.The transaction fee helps cover payment processing and transaction costs. The flexibility fee applies when you use Spread to pay your landlord upfront and repay over time. The exact cost will be shown before you confirm.

Are there any hidden fees? +

No. Spread will show your subscription cost, transaction fees, flexibility fees, and repayment schedule before you confirm a payment.You should know what you owe, when you owe it, and what your landlord will receive before you proceed.

When will I see the total cost? +

You will see the total cost before confirming your rent payment.This includes your rent amount, any applicable fees, your payment method, and your repayment schedule if you choose split payments.

Can I cancel my subscription? +

Yes. You can cancel your subscription.Cancellation terms may depend on whether you have an active rent payment, split payment plan, or outstanding balance. If you have an active repayment plan, you will still be responsible for any amounts owed.

Paying by Credit Card
Can I pay rent with a credit card through Spread? +

Yes. Spread lets you pay rent by credit card, even if your landlord does not accept credit cards directly.You pay Spread by card, and Spread sends your rent payment to your landlord.

Which credit cards are accepted? +

Spread is designed to support major Canadian credit cards.Final card acceptance may vary by card network, issuer, and payment method. We will show you the available options before you confirm your rent payment.

Will I earn rewards on my rent payment? +

You may be able to earn rewards, points, or cash back depending on your credit card.Rewards are controlled by your card issuer, not Spread. You should check your card terms to confirm whether rent payments or third-party payment services qualify for rewards.

Are there fees for paying by credit card? +

Yes. A transaction fee applies when you pay rent by credit card.Spread will show you the full cost before you confirm your payment, so there are no surprises.

Split Payments
What does "split rent" mean? +

Split rent means Spread pays your landlord upfront, and you repay Spread in smaller payments over time.Your landlord still gets paid on time. You get more time to pay.

How does the eligibility check work? +

Spread uses the information you provide to assess whether split payments are available to you.This may include your identity, rent details, income or banking information, credit profile, payment history, and other eligibility factors. Approval is not guaranteed.

Will the eligibility check affect my credit score? +

Checking your eligibility will not affect your credit score if it is completed using a soft credit check.If a hard credit check is ever required, we will ask for your consent before proceeding.

Can I use split payments every month? +

Potentially, yes.Split payments are subject to eligibility each month. Availability may depend on your account standing, repayment history, rent amount, credit profile, and Spread's approval criteria at the time you use the service.

Can I combine credit card and split payments in the same month? +

No. You choose one payment option per rent cycle.You can pay by credit card, pay in full, or use split payments if eligible, but you cannot combine credit card payments with split payments for the same rent payment.

What happens if I miss a split payment to Spread? +

If you miss a payment, Spread may charge applicable fees, pause your access to split payments, attempt to collect the missed payment, or report missed payments where permitted.Late or missed payments may negatively affect your credit if your account is reported to a credit bureau.

Rent Payment Timing
When does my landlord get paid? +

Spread is designed to make sure your landlord receives rent on time.You set up your rent payment in advance, and Spread sends the payment to your landlord based on the payment details you provide. We will show you the expected delivery timing before you confirm.

How far in advance do I need to set up my rent payment? +

You should set up your rent payment before your rent due date.Exact timing may depend on your payment method, your landlord's payment method, banking timelines, and whether additional verification is required. Spread will tell you the required timing during setup.

How does Spread send money to my landlord? +

Spread sends your rent payment using the landlord payment details you provide.This may include bank transfer or another supported payment method. Your landlord does not need to accept credit cards directly for you to use Spread.

What happens if my landlord says they did not receive payment? +

Contact Spread support right away.We will review the payment status, timing, recipient details, and confirmation records. If there is an issue, we will work with you to investigate and resolve it.

Can I change or cancel a scheduled rent payment? +

You may be able to change or cancel a scheduled payment before it is processed.Once a payment has been initiated or sent to your landlord, cancellation may not be available. Spread will show the status of your payment in your account.

Credit Building
How does Spread help me build my credit score? +

Spread is designed to help renters build credit by creating a repayment history tied to rent payments.When eligible payments are reported to a credit bureau, consistent on-time repayment may help strengthen your credit profile over time. Credit score impact is not guaranteed and depends on your broader credit history.

Which credit bureaus does Spread report to? +

Spread intends to report eligible repayment activity to one or more Canadian credit bureaus.The specific bureau or bureaus may vary by product, province, and reporting setup. We will confirm what is reported, and to whom, before you activate credit reporting.

How long does it take to see an impact on my credit score? +

There is no guaranteed timeline.Credit score changes depend on when payments are reported, how the credit bureau processes the information, and the rest of your credit profile. Some users may see changes sooner than others, while some may not see a meaningful change.

Can late payments hurt my credit score? +

Yes. If your Spread account is reported to a credit bureau, late or missed payments may negatively affect your credit score.The best way to use Spread for credit building is to make every payment on time.

Can I opt out of credit reporting? +

This depends on the product you use.For some credit products, reporting may be required as part of the terms. If optional reporting is available, we will clearly explain your choices before you activate it.

Account Setup
What information do I need to sign up? +

Do I need to upload my lease? +

Do I need to verify my identity? +

Yes, identity verification may be required.This helps protect you, your landlord, and Spread from fraud and unauthorized payments.

Do I need to connect my bank account? +

You may be asked to connect a bank account if you apply for split payments or if additional verification is needed.This can help Spread assess eligibility, confirm income or cash flow, and support repayment setup.

Landlords
Will my landlord know I am using Spread? +

Your landlord may see that the rent payment is being sent through Spread or one of Spread's payment partners.Spread is designed to be a rent payment platform, not a signal that you are behind on rent. Your landlord gets paid according to the payment details provided.

Does using Spread mean I am late on rent? +

No. Using Spread does not mean you are late on rent.Spread is built to help your landlord get paid on time while giving you more flexibility in how you manage your rent payment.

What name will appear when my landlord gets paid? +

The payment descriptor may vary depending on the payment method used.Spread will provide payment details or confirmation where available so you can identify the payment if your landlord has questions.

Responsible Use
Should I use split payments every month? +

Split payments can be helpful for managing timing, but they should be used carefully.If you regularly need to split rent because your rent is unaffordable, Spread may not solve the underlying issue. Split payments are best used when you have predictable income and need more flexibility around timing.

How do I know if split payments are right for me? +

Split payments may be a good fit if your income is reliable, you can afford the repayment schedule, and you want to avoid being short on rent due to timing.Before confirming, review the total cost, payment dates, and whether the repayment schedule fits your budget.

Can using Spread put me into debt? +

Yes. If you use split payments, you are taking on an obligation to repay Spread.You should only use split payments if you are confident you can make each scheduled repayment on time.

Security & Privacy
Is my financial information secure? +

Spread uses security controls designed to protect your personal and financial information.We only collect information needed to provide the service, assess eligibility, process payments, prevent fraud, and meet legal and compliance obligations.

Where is my data stored? +

Spread stores and processes data using trusted technology providers.Some service providers may store or process data outside your province or outside Canada. Where that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. This will be addressed in Spread's Privacy Policy.

Does Spread sell my personal information? +
